  1. These coots doesn’t seem to me to be landing. It looks like one is chasing another running
    on the surface of the water. I’ve seen coots doing that many times. But – I wasn’t there 🙂

    • Hi, MG. I’m sure you are right! I was trying to keep the camera steady because of the distance. The coots suddenly appeared as I pressed the button… Looking again, your explanation is much more plausible because (1) it looks more like chasing than landing (2) I am a bird amateur and anyone bothering to comment will know better than I do (3) other birds were also chasing / courting – see next post involving Muscovy ducks having… there’s no way to avoid saying it… February s@x.   2. I think you know much more about birds than I do. I’m a REAL bird amateur 🙂 Just seen coots behaving that way and it looked similar to the situation shown on your picture.

    And while talking about birds having sex, ornithologists use sophisticated word: mating.:-)
